Hello, folks! Today, I am going to discuss 21st-century learning, why it is significant in language learning and why technology should be integrated into learning English. Hope you like my blog :)
Here it is: the era that changes all the roles of education and subsequently learning, which is the 21st century!
In this era, learning has shifted mainly from books and blackboards to a virtual world and educational platforms due to the rapid developments in technology.
So, how could technology affect the way we learn a language? Learning through smartboards, tablets, computers and some educational applications has become prevalent and has shifted our learning styles, one of the most popular being 'technology-mediated learning'.
For example, apps like Kahoot for quizzes in language learning, Tandem for online chatting in English or in any language and meeting people from different cultures, and Duolingo for online language learning in shorter periods have prevailed in educational areas. These tools, mainly called Web 2.0 tools are free and accessible anywhere and anytime. They facilitate our learning by means of speed, a simple interface, and a learner-oriented mentality. That's why they are so important in language learning.
Should technology be integrated into English language learning process? Some can say that it would harm students' linguistic developments through harmful websites and incompatible apps but think about this. We wake up and until we go to bed, we use technology in many areas including English language learning.
We watch some videos from YouTube for learning English, use British Council if we want to learn grammar or Grammarly for improving our writing skills through error corrections. Learning English is in the hands of technology anymore and learners got used to reach many contents in English rapidly and freely through technology. As a result, we can't think about English learning without integration of technological apps and websites.
